This is a very useful tool. Use the Surface Extract tool to create faces from existing curves. Create 1 or 2 curves. Choose the Extract Surface Tool, click points on the curves to identify the points of the face. When one face is finished, hit Return. It is better to create faces with 3 or 4 edges each rather than complex polygons. There are many more uses of this tool. For example, in order to create a filled rectangle (polygon) from a hollow rectangle (closed curve) which you can draw from 2D Draw tool, simply select the rectangle, then select the Extract Surface tool, and hit Return. Amapi 3D automatically uses the close curve as a contour and fills it to create your filled rectangle. Another typical scenario for this tool is when you want to connect two different parts, such as a finger to a hand. You can manually (no pun intended!) click and select individual points from the finger and points from the hand where the two should connect. The points you click don't have to be from a curve - you can directly select points from a surface (or mid-points on line segments with the SHIFT key to snap!). |
